I would say, for everything you would imagine your site doing, there is one or another CMS which can do that. For blogs there is a common sense of using WordPress blog management system, for large scale websites Drupal CMS is perceived to be a better fit, while Joomla CMS is easier to learn for newbies. .NET developers prefer alternative DonNetNuke or umbraco CMS.
