Gave up ASP.NET MVC on IIS 5.1/6

| Sunday, November 14, 2010
This was an update on http://samgentile.com/Web/asp-net/unable-to-run-asp-net-mvc-on-iis-5-1-iis-6-0/ but I pulled it into it's own post because I think it deserves some attention.

Update: Thanks for all the ideas but when I came into work, my Tech Lead had already decided not to invest any more cycles in this and move back to classic ASP.NET and I think he's 100% right. This post chronicles how hard this is on XP/IIS 5.1. There are workarounds for IIS 6 but they are workarounds and hacks. I mean, to wildcard map in order to run MVC is an outright security nightmare and won't fly in our strict security government environment. We have work to do and have to get to it on ASP.NET. We will revisit MVC when we get our Win2K8 servers in a year and have IIS 7. We don't have the luxury of buying all new servers in an instant and rewriting our MVC only to have to change it anyway when we have IIS 7.
